Many hungry animals– especially magpies, ravens and crows– are attracted to the life-giving carcass during the winter, when food is scarce.
Birds of the crow family are comparatively intelligent. They have good learning ability and can even solve tricky problems. Here you see two fearless crows mobbing a white-tailed eagle.
One of them pulls the eagle's tail. The other waits attentively for the moment when the eagle lunges furiously back at its tormentor, providing an opportunity to quickly snatch a bit of food from the carcass.
