The mink sneaks around under the cover of plants, searching, sniffing out prey. . . .
Spotted! Now, it is important for the ringed plovers to play the game convincingly and with feeling!
The plovers are quick to react. One of them creeps forward– crouching, head hanging, wings and tail dragging on the ground. Is it sick?
The other looks to be very healthy– head and tail held high, wings upraised and fluttering. It runs over the ground, displaying its white wing-stripes and the light colour on the underside of the wings, all to make itself plainly visible.
The mink seems hungry and is close upon them. Why don't they fly off to distant safety?
