A swarm of white birds flies back and forth through the air, screeching incessantly through wide-open, bright red bills.
So it is with a colony of black-headed gulls– disorderly, one might think. But if one pauses to study the birds, an orderly and logical pattern of behaviour can be observed.
Many gull species have a rich behavioural repertory with which they can express many nuances that can be used in a wide variety of situations.
The varied behaviour is related to the fact that gulls live very close together. Good communication is a necessity!
