Courtship display
Mallard ducks gather to conduct their courtship display during September-October. They float on the water in small groups, with several females around them. The males become excited and suddenly take on strange poses and behaviour, combined with whistling sounds.
Forming pairs
This is what happens when mallards form into pairs. The males display themselves while the females inspect them before choosing a partner.
