Surfacing

When it is wet and rainy, earthworms make their way to the surface. They move backwards and emerge with rear end first to eliminate their wastes or crawl about in search of something to eat.

Dinner is served

Fieldfares (a thrush species) take the chance and are soon on the hunt. They tilt their heads to one side in order to see and hear better.

Quick strike

The thrush grabs the worm with a quick strike of its beak. The worm tries desperately to escape, but the thrush usually wins the furious tug of war.

Eat worms, like others do!

In addition to various kinds of insect, worms are an important source of food for thrushes. Earthworms are very nutritious! It is therefore not by chance that they are eaten by many animals which, in addition to thrushes, include the mole, badger, buzzard, fox, tawny owl, shrews, etc.
