Hungry hunter
The hungry great tit hops around the branches, hunting for something edible. Ah, there – a tasty morsel! A little brown moth. Gulp – then it's gone!
Clever, cleverer…
This is a routine occurrence in nature – predators everywhere. Prey animals must be on their guard. How to escape? As the hunter is clever, its prey must be more so.
Cheating death
Those that do not escape pay a high price – death. Therefore, different ways of cheating the grim reaper can be seen in nature. Camouflage is a common method.
How many?
How many moths do you see on the tree trunk? One? The brown moth – the one that the great tit also saw? Look again! If you look closely, you can see six more moths! They are hard to spot because they are the same colour as the bark – which is exactly the point. Perhaps both you and the great tit were fooled!
