Small pupae ...

Inside the anthill, there are larvae and pupae of two sizes: the smaller become working-ants, if the eggs were fertilised when laid by the queen. Working-ants are sterile females, which means they can't propagate. Unfertilised eggs produce males. They have wings, and participate in the propagation.

... and large

Large pupae come from fertilized eggs and develop into queens, which have wings and genitals and participate in propagation.

The young ant

Young working-ants have several duties: She guards eggs, larvae and pupae, and cares for the queens. She also builds and repairs paths.

Wanderings

Finally she makes long hikes to collect food and building material. She can be away for days, but nevertheless finds her way home. Ants orientate themselves with beaten tracks or use the sun.
