Wolves are known for their howling. They often howl together. The howls vary in pitch and character. A concerted choir singing ensues – desolate and beautiful.
The howling could have several meanings. It's a way to gather the flock before the night's hunt, or after the hunt, if the wolves have become separated.
Howling could also be a way to mark the territory – our ground! The wolf has a great sense of hearing, and may hear another wolf howl at a distance of 10 kilometres.
