The lynx is the only wild feline in Sweden. Feline animals are characterised by their lithe attacks.
Here, a lynx comes wandering across the snow, where a black grouse has buried itself to better retain heat. Frightened, it flies away. The lynx instantly assesses the situation, shoots through the air like an arrow to catch the grouse.
The lynx is a skilled hunter. But chasing birds on the run is not easy– three times out of four the lynx fails.
Vision, and most of all hearing, are the lynx's most essential senses. The lynx can hear a reindeer digging for food in the snow at distances of several hundred metres.
The lynx usually sneaks up on its prey. Even in open terrain, it exploits recesses in the ground, and patiently slips up beside the prey. Three, four quick leaps and the prey is caught off guard.
