The fox-burrow

Busy times

Four hungry cubs to feed! Here comes the male fox with a grey hen for the hungry mouths. Other common prey are hare, fawn and capercaillie. Remains of the prey are left in front of the burrow.

Hardworking male

The male fox takes part in caring for the cubs. Among most mammals, the female takes sole responsibility for the young.

Hardworking couple

A male and a female live together and mate only with each other. They stay within their territory, three kilometres in diameter. It is marked with urine and droppings and defended against intruders. They seek food within the territory, where also the burrow is found.
