Animals

Many plants are scattered by animals. The seeds of such plants usually have hairs or barbs which fasten to the pelts of animals of the clothes of humans. Examples include burdock and water avens.

Self-spreading

Some plants do it all themselves. The fruit of the wood cranesbill is long and narrow. As it ripens, tension builds up in the skin until it splits open in a sudden, powerful burst. The seeds inside are cast outward and land at a distance from the plant.
