Staying put...

Unlike animals, plants are rooted in the earth and cannot move by themselves. Nonetheless, they are dispersed from one place to another.

...but getting around

In most cases, plants extend their range by means of their seeds, which develop in the flowers after being pollinated. Before they end up on the earth and grow up, seeds are removed some distance from the mother plant.

Wind

The seeds of ash trees have wings, and those of the goldenrod have fine hairs. Those structures enable them to be caught up in a wind or breeze that carries them away from the mother plant. The length of the distance varies, depending on the strength of the wind and the weight of the seed.
