exploring nature

Stopover

The landscape depicted here is a stretch of coast somewhere in southern Sweden during late August. A number of migrating birds are on the move. Here, they are taking a pause to rest and feed among bushes with abundant insects.

Life and action

A bird ringer has caught a redstart in the net (to the right) and a willow warbler, while a chaffinch is headed into the net. A whinchat rests on a juniper bush with a red admiral butterfly in its beak, while a wryneck keeps watch from a branch and a flock of starlings swirls through the air.

Hunting grounds

The areas that attract small birds also attract birds of prey. A long-eared owl glides among the junipers with a hungry eye for small birds.

Popular science

This exhibition presents a number of facts on Swedish nature in a popular-science format. It is based on knowledge that has been accumulated through research in the natural sciences.
