fungi

What is a fungus?

When you pick mushrooms, edible fungi, in the forest you do not see the entire fungus. Most of it is concealed underground. Hypha and mycelium The actual fungus consists of fine threads, called hyphae. Several hyphae growing together, in a jumbled network, are called mycelium. The ground in the evergreen forest is covered with fungus mycelium.

Poke a little

If you carefully remove dead twigs and needles from the ground, you will see the fungi's dense blanket of mycelium. It is no coincidence that the mycelium lies right here – the fungus lives on remains of dead plants and animals.
