What has resulted from more than a century of bird ringing?
On their autumn migrations, certain species fly south only a short distance to southern Sweden or the middle of Europe. These are short-distance migrators.
Other species fly further – to the south of Europe or North Africa. These are medium-distance migrators.
Comprising a third category are species that migrate impressively long distances. They fly all the way to areas of southern Africa. They are long-distance migrators.
When migrating from Sweden, most species head southwest, while a few fly to the southeast.
