What would a Swedish archipelago be without its seagulls? Nothing! Gulls often stand watch on the high cliffs with a broad field of vision.
The biggest of all the gull species. Its back and the upper sides of its wings are black. At the very tips of its wings, there are several white flecks. The legs are greyish-pink.
This species resembles the greater species, but is somewhat smaller. One clear difference is its leg colour, which is yellow; and the wing tips have fewer white flecks.
At the moment, the herring gull is not standing on the cliff. It is home at the nest, feeding the chicks (see a diorama to the left). Its upper side is grey and its legs are pink.
