Habits

Fawns generally separate from their mother after a year, and roam to new grounds. However, it’s common that daughters remain in the vicinity of their mothers' home range. Thus, within a particular area, several generations of does could know each other well (as mother-daughter or sisters). They live close to one other without animosity.

Population

The roe deer has existed in Sweden, ever since the ice receded about 10,000 years ago. At times, it was very common but in the early 19th Century, only a small population remained – the result of intense hunting. However, the numbers grew again due to protective laws. Today, the roe deer is common, very much caused by mild winters.
