Cocoon

At the end of the larva period, the salivary glands discharge a secretion that the larva makes into a thread and which is spun around the body repeatedly. Finally, the larva is enveloped inside a cocoon.

Larva to pupa

The larva become a pupa in the cocoon. After a while the cocoon cracks and the pupa comes forth. It looks like the adult ant, with legs, head, eyes and antennae.

The pupae hatch

The pupa state lasts 14 days. The pupae are moved around, to keep them warm at all times. In the pupa, the larva is transformed into an adult ant, which finally comes out.
