Hoarding food
The nuthatch on the tree trunk to the right, is hiding sunflower seeds in a crack of bark. She eats them during the course of the day and they give her a little extra energy, which she needs to survive the long and cold winter night.
Living in a flock
Yellow buntings on the ground cling to each other. Birds in a group can easier detect predators, if they take turns keeping a look-out. Therefore, many species live together in flocks.
